Why Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy) instead of Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal)
A few reasons on why to switch from Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal) to our new solution for Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy):
- Updated Kernel (Jammys new features)
- New Homedir handling
- New Firewall handling
- Focused customer support for jammy
- Directed effort to continuously improve jammy
- Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal) eol* is april 2025 (Jammy is april 2032)
*eol -> End of Life
Changes to default Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy)
Changes made to the default Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy):
- ETH CxS system operation user (sysop)
- Possibility to add clients to Zabbix monitoring system
- Customized to adhere to ETH BOT
- All hosts added to Nessus client
- LDAP / AD user login
- Removed Snap (only non-snap-software)
- Pre-installed software (for Jammy desktop solution)
- Evolution
- Chromium Browser
- Firefox (with Adblocker)

- Different homedir handling

- System operation user used for remote support if needed by customer
